The Department of Education Order No. 42, series 2016, otherwise known as the "Policy Guidelines on the Daily Lesson Preparation for K-12 Basic Education Program", governs the new framework to be followed by teachers in the preparation of their lesson plan or lesson log.
The new order demands teacher to be more specific with activities that paves way for the attainment of the different intended learning objectives as provided in the curriculum guide of the DepEd. A reflection at the end of the lesson plan makes teachers assess if the intended outcomes were met by the students through the activities. Failure to achieve would ask the teachers to cite factors that affects the said result and and for them to suggest activities to further develop students' skills.
The Detailed Lesson Plan is only demanded for teachers with less than one year experience in the public school system and Higher Education Institutions(HEIs). This is a deviation from the usual detailed lesson plan as the usual teacher and student response will no longer be seen, as the framework requires just the basic and usual parts which has a great resemblance with the known Semi-detailed one.
The Daily Lesson Log in contrast is intended for teachers who had at least one year experience in the academe and for those who gained "Outstanding" or "Very Satisfactory" in their DepEd’s Results based Performance Management System(RPM). The usual elements needed in the lesson log are all copied from the released curriculum guide of DepEd. What comes from the teacher is the reflection part that guides them to assess and self-reflect.
This order of the DepEd is timely as it recognizes and espouses the fact that planning and preparation leads to better performance of the teacher and better delivery of the content. They also wanted to emphasize the basic fact that not all students learn at the same time and pace but all of them are capable of learning - the teacher just have to know what strategy fits best his/her students.
